About The Role Getting our people home safely to their families every day is at the heart of what we do at BMD. We’re mobilising a high‑performing team to deliver the upgrade of the Charmhaven Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant on the NSW Central Coast, a significant project with complex live‑operations interfaces and an extensive commissioning phase. As our Safety Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in driving health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ) excellence across the project from early site establishment through installation, integration and commissioning. The scope includes civil structures, mechanical and electrical packages, equipment supply and installation, SCADA integration, testing and proving—making this an exceptional opportunity for a safety leader with deep utilities/WWTP experience. What You’ll Do Lead the development and implementation of project-specific HSE plans, emergency response, and permit-to-work frameworks aligned to client and BMD requirements. Champion safe behaviours on a live plant: oversee isolations/LOTO, confined space entry, hazardous chemicals handling, and HV/EE interfaces during installation and commissioning. Lead, coach and guide the project HSE team and frontline supervision, building ownership for safety across all work groups. Plan and lead audits, frontline engagements and control verifications; drive corrective actions and continuous improvement. Facilitate risk workshops and provide input to construction methodology, lift plans, energisation/commissioning steps and shutdown scheduling. Use data to identify key risks and spearhead targeted safety initiatives and innovations. Lead ICAM-quality incident investigations and formal reviews, ensuring learnings are embedded. Identify and support training activities (e.g., confined space, gas testing, HV awareness, chemical management) to build team capability. Provide clear advice and guidance on legislative and client requirements throughout the project lifecycle. About you You’re a self-starter and a natural relationship builder who can influence at both project management and frontline levels. You bring: Demonstrable experience in water/wastewater treatment plant construction or upgrades (Sydney Water, Hunter Water, Central Coast Council or similar utility projects preferred). Proven capability working within live brownfield environments and through complex commissioning phases (SCADA/process/ME&I). Certificate IV in WHS (Diploma desirable). Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to coach, challenge and support diverse teams. Sound knowledge of risk management, permits, isolations/LOTO, hazardous substances and confined space requirements. ICAM investigation training/experience (desirable). Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Must have).
