This is a Indirect Tax Specialist (Digital Economy Focused) - Sydney role with TikTok based in Sydney, NSW, AU TikTok Role Seniority - mid level More about the Indirect Tax Specialist (Digital Economy Focused) - Sydney role at TikTok Team Introduction: As an Indirect Tax Specialist who is part of the TikTok Tax Team, you will be part of a team that spans the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania. You will have the opportunity to work closely with our Accounting, Finance and Legal teams. You will be part of the team that looks after the indirect tax obligations of TikTok in the Oceania Region (Australia, NZ, Pacific Islands) and work with stakeholders from different business areas within the wider TikTok Group. This role is based in Sydney, Australia. This role requires being in the office in Sydney's CBD for 3 days a week. Roles and responsibilities: In this role, you will be a valued local member of the Oceania tax team, mainly looking after TikTok's tax obligations in Australia and New Zealand. Your main responsibilities for the Oceania region include: - Preparing indirect tax advice to the business and on the tax outcomes of commercial transactions. - Preparation of Business Activity Statements/GST returns. - Collaborating with stakeholders across jurisdictions on indirect tax issues - Data preparation and collation for indirect tax audits and litigation. - Assist tax technology implementations and automations with our ERP and IT systems, to drive efficiency and improve end-to-end tax processes and controls. - Identifying and executing process improvement and optimization projects to ensure effective and efficient management of resources for the tax team. - Monitoring developments in tax legislation and being able to communicate these to the business as they could impact current or future commercial transactions. - Ensure that business developments that impact GST reporting are appropriately reflected in BAS/GST returns. - Act as an operational point of contact for indirect tax issues across the business. Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree or above in accountancy or finance. - CA/CPA qualification, or admission as an Australian or New Zealand lawyer. - 4 years of indirect tax (GST) compliance and advisory experience, with evidence of delivering high-quality technical guidance and partnering effectively with stakeholders across complex environments. Experience may come from professional services, in-house roles, or other relevant settings in Australia and/or New Zealand. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a continuous-improvement mindset and the ability to find effective solutions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. - Strong written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with global partners across different time zones and cultures, and to build collaborative working relationships with stakeholders. - Meticulous, with strong attention to detail, and committed to delivering high-quality work; strong experience working with large data sets and proficiency in IT systems and advanced Excel. Preferred Qualifications: - Experience with indirect tax matters relating to the digital economy and e-commerce is highly desirable. - Experience using tax technology tools such as Alteryx is a plus.
