About the role The Leading Hand Sport Reserves role supports the Supervisor Sports Grounds in maintaining Ballarat’s sports reserves and open spaces to a high standard. Responsibilities include supervising and assisting with turf and horticultural maintenance, operating plant and equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and delivering excellent customer service. The position also involves preparing venues for events, completing documentation, and working collaboratively across teams to uphold Council’s service standards. About you You are an experienced professional with a strong background in sports turf management and open space maintenance. You hold a minimum Certificate III in Sports Turf Management (or have significant relevant experience) and bring practical expertise in leading teams, maintaining sports reserves, and managing irrigation systems. Your experience includes working within local government environments and applying Occupational Health and Safety procedures in line with legislation and Council policies. You have a sound understanding of environmental controls and hazardous substances, and you maintain a current Victorian Medium Rigid driver’s licence and current Victoria Driver's License. Your approach is safety-focused, customer-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality outcomes for the community. Key Selection Criteria A minimum Certificate III in Sports Turf Management or demonstrated relevant significant experience Demonstrated ability to champion, model and promote corporate values. Local Government experience that embraces the broad range of maintenance associated with Sports Reserves. Demonstrated ability to implement and monitor adherence to health and safety policies and procedures within a team environment Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for dealing with staff, contractors, community, and the preparation of quotes and business plans. Experience leading a team or crew in a Parks and Gardens or more specifically, Sports Turf Management environment. Current Victorian MR Driver’s License.
