About the role We are looking for a sharp, storytelling-obsessed News Writer to join our dynamic news vertical. In this role, you will be responsible for pitching and writing engaging content across a diverse range of topics, including Australian and international news, politics, sport, crime, real-life stories, and celebrity news. You will tailor content specifically for the Mamamia audience, ensuring it resonates and engages. You will work the morning shift (6am-2pm) to cover breaking news as it happens. This is a 9-month fixed-term contract ending in September 2026, with the potential to extend. Here's some of the stuff you can expect to be doing if you join us: Monitoring TV, radio, print, online news and social media to stay on top of the broader conversation Pitching, writing and publishing high-quality content across the network that's on brand and tailored to the Mamamia audience Conducting research and interviews to develop original story ideas and build relationships with key contacts Working the morning shift (6am-2pm) and covering breaking news as required Writing concise, punchy, on-brand headlines and social media "sells" that maximise reach and shareability Sourcing and selecting relevant images, video and podcast content to support stories Appearing in Mamamia podcasts and videos as required, including reading The Quicky afternoon headlines Collaborating with the podcast team to turn episodes into written articles and social explainers where appropriate Now, a bit about you Tertiary qualifications in Journalism, Media & Communications, or a related field Minimum two years' experience in a Content Producer role or a similar position Experience using WordPress or a comparable content management system Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure Excellent written and verbal communication skills Exceptional organisational skills with strong attention to detail and time management Strong understanding of social media platforms Sound knowledge of court reporting and media law Life at Mamamia We're fast-paced and innovative, with a collaborative culture when it comes to industry-leading strategies and ideas.
