About the Role The Case Officer plays a critical role in supporting VCAT's case management process by ensuring matters are jurisdictionally sound, procedurally complete, and ready for hearing. The role involves conducting jurisdiction checks, preparing cases, and ensuring all necessary documentation and procedural steps are completed efficiently. Duties Conduct jurisdictional checks to ensure cases are appropriately filed under VCAT's legislative framework. Assess and review case applications, ensuring all relevant documentation is complete and compliant with tribunal requirements and make administrative decisions in line with delegated Principal Registrar directions. Undertake case preparation activities, including ensuring evidence and supporting materials are submitted in accordance with procedural rules. Proactively liaise with applicants, respondents, legal representatives, and internal teams to resolve procedural issues prior to hearings. Identify and escalate cases with incomplete or non-compliant documentation for rectification. About You The ideal candidate will have high attention to detail, analytical skills, and knowledge of VCAT's rules and procedures to effectively manage cases before they proceed to hearing. You will also have: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to proactively engage with diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of VCAT's jurisdiction, legislation, and procedural rules or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge. Strong attention to detail and ability to assess case information for completeness and compliance. Case management experience in a legal, tribunal, or government setting is desirable. Experience using case management systems and digital workflows to track and manage cases.
