About the role: The Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Unit works in collaboration with other specialist units within Counter Terrorism Command (CTC), government entities, and third-party providers to provide interventions to individuals who are convicted of terrorism related offences, hold a violent extremist ideology, or are assessed as being vulnerable to or at risk of radicalising to a violent extremist ideology. The CVE Unit is a multidisciplinary work unit comprising of sworn police members, a senior forensic psychologist, senior analysts, case managers, policy and project officers, and in-house program mentors. The successful applicant will join a small, motivated team within the CVE Unit that reports directly to the Inspector CVE. As a Senior Project / Policy Advisor you will be required to work collaboratively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to advance the CVE Unit's strategic priorities. Your duties will include: Actively lead, supervise and manage the resources and functions of the CVE Policy team in alignment with the strategic direction of the CVE Unit, Counter Terrorism Command, and broader organisation. Demonstrated people-leadership, strong team management and coaching skills are key role accountabilities to support employee growth, strengthen relationships, and build a positive team culture to deliver results. Maintaining oversight of policies, projects, and legislative reform activities by using appropriate research techniques; review legal advice and corporate policy, research, analyse and assess issues with strategic policy implications and examine the efficiency and effectiveness of practices and procedures. Assist in the development of policy, legislation, strategy and business case submissions with the objective to capture the full range of effective interventions, including crime prevention, suppression, disruption and enforcement. Develop highly coordinated prevention, preparedness, and response arrangements through CVE Programs to prevent terrorism and counter violent extremism in Victoria and lead the Victoria Police's agenda and participation in national and international counter terrorism forums. Scope and implement strategic projects to continuously improve and refine the operationalisation of CVE Programs, including conducting regular program evaluations to ensure identified risks are appropriately mitigated. Strategic oversight of projects and continuous management and improvement of governance arrangements with jurisdictional partner agencies and contracted service providers. Negotiation of funding and meeting aligned reporting obligations for the Victorian and Commonwealth Government. Provide verbal and written advice to senior management and related committees and provide research in support of high-quality strategies, policies and programs relevant to the Region/Command/Department consistent with Victoria Police goals and objectives, Government policy and legislation. Maintain knowledge of current and emerging issues within the Region/Command/Department and liaise with internal and external stakeholder representatives including the State and Commonwealth Government, academia, and NGOs to encourage a proactive approach. Contribute as a member of the Region/Command/Department to ensure Victoria Police delivers its targets within budget, implements its strategies and operates within the corporate policy framework.
