About the Position This role supports students and teachers in accessing and using library resources effectively while assisting with the organisation and management of books, digital media, and databases. Responsibilities include facilitating checkouts, shelving book returns, maintaining resource records, assisting with research and information inquiries, and supporting daily library operations. This is a 38-hour per week position worked during term time, with rostered hours varying between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm. A typical roster will usually include either an 8:00am – 4:00 pm or 9:00am – 5:00pm shift. The position also includes one evening shift per week, from 12:00pm – 8:00 pm, and occasionally an early 7:00am start. In addition to the regular weekly roster, there will be optional Sunday work offered at least once per school term, as well as one additional week of work at the end of each school year to support the annual stocktake. About You You will be someone who is driven by a passion for libraries and learning, you excel at organisation and teamwork, and you are committed to providing outstanding support to students and staff. You have a genuine commitment to girls education and assisting young women to succeed. You have strong communication skills and proficiency in educational technology and digital platforms. You hold a Certificate III in Library and Information Services as a minimum qualification. A Diploma qualification is highly desirable, particularly when combined with experience in an educational or high-use library setting. About the Role Key responsibilities include: Management of Resources : Organise and catalogue library materials, including books, periodicals, and digital resources, ensuring efficient access for students and staff. Supervision and Student Support : Supervise and roll-mark Year 11 and 12 students during library study lessons. Oversee A-Team evening tutorial sessions, outside-school-hours supervision, and maintain active lunch and recess duties in the Senior Library. Learning Support : Assist students with research assignments, provide guidance on research techniques, support the development of digital literacy skills, and help build content for new research-based learning activities in collaboration with teaching staff. Pastoral Care : Communicate relevant student welfare information to staff as needed, offer supportive supervision promoting wellbeing, and help maintain a positive and inclusive library environment. Collection Development : Use cataloguing systems such as SCIS or Libraries Australia for resource management and maintain up-to-date knowledge of Young Adult literature, particularly titles suited to teenage girls. Technology and Systems: Maintain and troubleshoot library technology, including printers and security software (EnvisionWare), to ensure reliable daily operations. Microsoft Suite – use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canva confidently to produce documents, reports, signage, and promotional materials. Support students and staff in accessing and using digital platforms such as Oliver (Softlink), CiteMaker, ClickView, and SORA. Circulation: Manage circulation desk operations, including processing checkouts, returns, reservations, and general enquiries. Provide front-line support to students and staff in accessing physical and digital library resources. Programs and Events : P lan and create engaging library displays, promotions, and events that support reading, learning, and student wellbeing. Assist with the coordination and supervision of co-curricular clubs such as Book Club, Readers Cup, Fashion Club, Chess Club, Amnesty, and International Group. Why Join St Hilda’s School?
