Our Legal Services team provides independent, expert legal services to the Treasury portfolio, known for its strategic, solutions-focused approach. We are looking for a Principal Legal Officer to join our collaborative team. This is an outstanding opportunity for a lawyer with strong expertise in contracts law and finance law. You will provide expert legal advice on commercial agreements and complex financial transactions within the public sector. We offer both 1 x Permanent and 1 x Temporary (12 months) roles on a flexible full-time basis. You will report to a Deputy General Counsel. Legal experience from government, private practice, in-house, or the not-for-profit sector is transferable.In this role, you will:- Draft and Review Documentation: Undertake the drafting and reviewing of contracts and other documentation, such as funding/investment facilitation agreements, complex transaction documents, and Cabinet submissions.- Provide Legal Support and Advice: Prepare legal advice for senior lawyers to finalise, assisting Treasury business groups and senior management. You will provide excellent legal support by partnering with clients and external stakeholders to assist with practical solutions.- External Counsel Management: Engage, brief, and manage external lawyers and barristers.- Team Collaboration and Development: Work in teams on allocated matters under the supervision of senior lawyers. Actively participate in continuing legal education and help uplift legal knowledge across Treasury.
