Description Inspection Arborist – Proactive & Compliance Reference number: 10920 Closing date: 11:00pm, Tuesday 16 December 2025 Full-time temporary position for two years. Salary commencing at $85,114.74 per annum, plus 12% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience. Band 5. The Opportunity Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Inspection Arborist to join our Trees & Urban Forest team within City Presentation. In this role, you will carry out proactive and reactive tree inspections across Council-managed streets, parks, and reserves, and apply risk assessment methodologies to support urban forest management. You will respond to tree-related enquiries, liaise with residents and contractors, assist with permit assessments, and help ensure compliance with Electric Line Clearance Regulations. This is a hands-on, community-facing role suited to arborists who are confident in both technical assessment and clear, respectful communication. Key Responsibilities Conduct proactive and reactive tree inspections in line with Council policies, the Tree Management Plan, and recognised tree risk assessment methodologies, capturing accurate photographic and audit-ready documentation. Respond to escalated tree-related enquiries, managing community expectations professionally and providing clear, timely, and policy-aligned advice. Assess tree condition, identify risks, and raise works in Council’s asset management system (Confirm) to support safe, consistent and transparent decision-making. Support assessment of tree-related permit applications by providing technical input and undertaking on-site inspections. Assist in achieving Electric Line Clearance compliance through accurate documentation, traceability of inspected spans, and coordination of shutdown or live line works where required. Capture high-quality proactive inspection data to support oversight of the Street Tree Maintenance Contract and contribute to improved service delivery. Undertake aerial inspections using Council’s EWP where required and provide practical field support during storm events or business-as-usual operations. Help supervise contractors and monitor arboricultural works to ensure safety, quality, and adherence to specifications. Maintain accurate digital records, support continuous improvement of systems and processes, and uphold Council’s values and commitment to community service. Skills & Experience The ideal candidate will bring strong applied arboricultural knowledge, demonstrated experience in urban tree inspection and risk-based assessment, and the ability to deliver clear, confident, and community-focused responses to tree-related enquiries. You will hold a Diploma of Arboriculture (or equivalent) and a recognised tree risk assessment qualification such as TRAQ, QTRA, or VALID, coupled with proficiency in visual tree assessment, defect identification, and policy-based decision-making. You will be comfortable using asset management systems, preferably Confirm, to record inspections and generate works, and possess a sound understanding of relevant legislation, including Electric Line Clearance requirements. A current Victorian Driver’s Licence is essential, with qualification or willingness to obtain Certificate II in ESI Powerline Vegetation Control.
