About the Role As a Heritage Information & Support Officer, you will provide compassionate support to individuals seeking access to historical records and family connections. This role combines archival research with therapeutic engagement, helping people navigate sensitive and emotional journeys. Key Responsibilities: Respond to enquiries via phone and email about accessing records. Search and prepare historical records for release in line with privacy legislation. Support individuals through the process of locating family members and, where appropriate, facilitate reunions. Provide reassurance, advice, and emotional support throughout the search process. Collaborate with other organisations and government departments to assist with record access. Contribute to the day-to-day operations of the MacKillop Heritage Centre. What We’re Looking For Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social Policy, Social Studies, Social History, or a related field. Experience working with people impacted by childhood out-of-home care or family separation. Knowledge of child welfare history, trauma, and attachment disruption. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative approach. Understanding of Privacy Legislation and commitment to MacKillop’s values. Cultural awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture and current issues affecting Aboriginal families.
