The Opportunity We’re seeking an Associate Director – Tax Advisory to take on a pivotal leadership role within our expanding Australian tax practice. You’ll deliver strategic, commercially focused tax advice, oversee complex transactions, ensure compliance across diverse business scenarios, and help drive the firm’s tax strategy forward. This role is ideal for someone with deep technical expertise, strong commercial acumen, and the confidence to lead client engagements and internal teams. Day to day Serve as the Registered Tax Agent for the Australian group and manage the tax agent registration process. Support the Head of Tax / Tax Director in developing and executing the firm’s tax strategy. Provide high-quality tax advisory services covering general and cross-border tax issues, delivered via meetings, email, or formal written opinions. Identify and implement tax planning opportunities to optimise corporate structures and shareholder outcomes. Prepare, review, and lodge annual income tax and FBT returns for the group. Offer tax support to regional affiliates on Australian tax matters. Lead business development activities, including client issue identification, proposal development, networking, and speaking engagements. Review and sign off on key compliance deliverables such as FBT returns, income tax returns, and ESS reporting. Act as the Tax Agent on record for annual R&D Applications, in collaboration with the R&D team. Support practice management including budgeting, P&L oversight, and team development. Provide strategic tax insights to senior stakeholders and clients. Review and approve technical tax analyses, memoranda, and compliance documentation. Interpret new tax legislation and assess its commercial impact. Collaborate with internal teams—legal, finance, and compliance—to deliver integrated client solutions. Mentor and guide junior team members to ensure quality and consistency. Manage relationships with external advisors and regulatory bodies. About You CA or CPA qualification; CTA or Master of Taxation highly regarded. 10 years’ experience in tax and business advisory, ideally from a mid-tier or boutique firm or in-house corporate setting. Strong technical knowledge of Australian tax law, corporate tax, international tax, and tax structuring. Proven ability to build and manage client relationships and deliver outstanding outcomes. Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience leading teams and managing complex projects. Excellent communication skills with a pragmatic, commercially focused approach. Confidence in navigating ambiguity and providing risk-aware solutions. Experience working with SMEs and family-owned businesses is highly desirable. Experience in Managed Funds & ESVCLP advisory and compliance is advantageous. In-house experience within multinational groups or advising multinational clients is a strong plus.
