They are now seeking an experienced Lead Application Architect to drive a significant system modernisation initiative, migrating complex legacy applications to a scalable, cloud-native AWS platform. About the Role Reporting to the Program Director, the Lead Application Architect will provide hands-on technical leadership across architectural design, cloud migration strategy, application modernisation and governance. You will steer the development of an event-driven, microservices-based architecture using AWS native services, while guiding engineering teams and ensuring all solutions align with compliance requirements within a regulated environment. This role combines deep technical capability with strong leadership, documentation discipline, and stakeholder engagement. Key Responsibilities 1. Technical Architecture & Design Lead the technical design for the cloud migration and modernisation program. Define and document application architecture for an event-driven, microservices-based AWS solution. Develop migration patterns, blueprints and strategies (rehost/replatform/refactor). Oversee detailed design of application components, IaC provisioning (Terraform/CloudFormation), and data migration pathways. Promote emerging technologies and architectural best practice. 2. Technical Leadership & Mentoring Lead and mentor architects, technical leads and software developers. Provide technical direction, support and oversight across delivery teams. Enforce coding standards and architectural guidelines. Foster a collaborative engineering culture and support capability development. 3. Governance, Security & Compliance Ensure all solutions align with organisation-wide architecture, security and compliance requirements. Implement secure coding standards within CI/CD pipelines. Conduct technical and security reviews, including penetration testing outcomes. Maintain detailed documentation and strong architectural governance. Uphold compliance with Australian data sovereignty and regulatory frameworks. 4. Technical Delivery & DevOps Contribute to hands-on development, configuration and implementation of cloud services. Coordinate technical delivery across cross-functional teams. Define and manage performance, failover, verification and validation processes. Support CI/CD uplift and DevOps practices. Execute smooth handovers to BAU with comprehensive documentation. 5. Stakeholder Management & Communication Communicate technical decisions, risks and recommendations to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders. Collaborate with QA, BAs, Product Owners, UX and vendors to support successful delivery. Facilitate workshops and ensure alignment between technical and business objectives. Skills & Experience – Must Haves 12 years’ experience as an Application or Lead Architect delivering major cloud or digital transformation programs. Proven experience leading full-stack engineering teams across services, APIs, mobile and web. Demonstrated expertise building cloud-native solutions using AWS services (Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, RDS, SQS/SNS, etc.). Strong background in microservices, containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration. Proficiency in one or more programming languages: .NET Core, C#, NodeJS, React, Go, Typescript. Strong Agile delivery experience (Scrum). Excellent documentation discipline and architectural decision-making. Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Why Apply?
