The key duties of the position include The Role Defence is seeking a highly motivated individual to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team that provides direct support to Defence's Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM) capability. The successful applicant will provide input to research and development (R&D) of technology concepts, assist with implementing targeted capability uplift initiatives, engage equipment suppliers to conduct technical assessments of new products, support technical threat evaluation of devices and systems and assist in developing procedural and technical documentation. They may also provide security advice around existing technical threats to protect Defence and its assets and information. The individual will also assist in managing and sustaining a fleet of electronic equipment and carry out diagnoses or repairs. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team The TSCM Capability Development team is a dynamic and highly skilled unit dedicated to advancing Defence's technical security capability. Comprising of technicians and engineers, this small multidisciplinary team provides overarching support to technical security operations, in their role as a security protection layer against technical surveillance threats to Defence. The team contributes to safeguarding sensitive information by applying engineering principles and methodologies to complex technical matters, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and innovative approaches to deliver new capabilities, and enhance and modernize extant capability. In addition, the team draws upon staff's technical knowledge and expertise for the development and sustainment of technical training packages to ensure currency of key skillsets and oversee the maintenance and sustainment of specialised electronic equipment. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will possess an understanding of the fundamentals of technology and electronic systems, engineering principles and be competent in using basic electronic test equipment. Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software packages is highly desirable. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interpret technical data, produce technical and learning documentation and the ability to complete tasks in a timely and orderly manner under supervision is required. A highly desirable candidate would be a recent graduate with a degree, certificate or diploma in electronics, radio frequency communications or similar engineering streams from a tertiary institution who is looking to start their career in technical security.
