Network Engineer – Contract role | Melbourne Our VIC based client is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join onsite team and play a key role in designing, implementing, managing and optimising our network and connectivity solutions. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in complex enterprise environments and enjoys solving real-world networking challenges while contributing to long-term technology growth and stability. Key Responsibilities Design, deploy, configure and maintain core network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers and VPNs. Troubleshoot and resolve L2/L3 network issues, performance bottlenecks, latency problems and routing anomalies. Monitor network performance, implement capacity planning and ensure redundancy across critical systems. Implement and maintain network security controls such as segmentation, access controls and intrusion detection. Manage network upgrades, patching, and changes following structured change-management processes. Collaborate with Systems, Security, Cloud and DevOps teams to integrate and optimise services. Engage with vendors and service providers for support, procurement, and escalations. Maintain up-to-date documentation including network diagrams, configurations, policies and procedures. Stay across emerging technologies, industry trends and networking best practices. About You (Skills & Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science or equivalent experience. 5 years’ experience in enterprise networking (senior roles), or fewer years for intermediate level. Strong knowledge of protocols such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, STP, IPSEC and related technologies. Hands-on experience with firewalls, VPNs, routing, switching, load balancing, wireless and QoS. Proficient with network monitoring, diagnostics and analytics tools. Experience with configuration/change management, backup/restore and disaster recovery planning. Solid understanding of network security fundamentals. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and communication skills. Relevant certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CISSP or vendor equivalents) are highly regarded. Why Join Us?
