Our Safety & ESG department provides professional, value-driven services to foster operating discipline and excellence throughout the organisation. Position Purpose Reporting to the Safety Manager, the Safety Specialist provides expert safety advice, guidance, and support to employees, contractors, and port users. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with GPC’s safety management system and statutory safety obligations. The Safety Specialist also plays a key role in fostering a positive safety culture through coaching and mentoring leadership and workforce behaviours. Key Responsibilities Deliver expert safety technical advice to employees, contractors, and port users. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the ISO45001-accredited safety management system. Ensure effective implementation of the safety management system through: Advising and coaching on system application and emerging issues. Conducting workplace inspections and audits. Facilitating risk assessments. Performing quality assurance on investigations, SAI360, risk assessments, and safety work procedures. Lead safety improvement projects aligned with the annual safety business plan. Mentor and coach leaders and staff to improve safety leadership and behaviours. Lead major incident investigations as directed. Assist with drug and alcohol testing as required. Prepare and deliver safety reports and data. Access necessary information, resources, and equipment to perform the role as per company policies. Enhancing safety culture and shifting beliefs towards injury prevention. Coaching to instil the mindset that all injuries are preventable. Maintain key relationships with internal stakeholders (employees, contractors, other GPC teams, port users) and external stakeholders (Workplace Health & Safety Queensland, unions). Operates autonomously with strategic guidance from the Safety Manager. Qualifications Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (desirable). Current Driver’s Licence. Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) or ability to obtain and maintain.
