CNC Machinist / Heavy Metal Fabrication Machinist – Jobbing Workshop We’re seeking experienced CNC Machinists with a background in heavy metal fabrication and machine shop work to join a well-established team specialising in large, one-off jobs for heavy industry. This is not a production line role – every project is unique. You’ll be machining large components such as pins, flanges, and big round bars or steel blocks , often weighing in the hundreds of kilos to several tonnes . Attention to detail, safety, and precision are key as you’ll be working with medium to heavy equipment and older-style machines that require real machinist skill and manual programming. What You’ll Be Doing Machining heavy and oversized components – steel primarily (minimal aluminium) Manual programming and setup on older CNC machines (not automated production) Operating vertical and horizontal borers – experience here is highly regarded and paid extra Grinding, drilling, and boring work on various custom projects Safely securing, locking down, and handling large workpieces Working autonomously in a supportive, hands-on environment What We’re Looking For Trade-qualified Machinist or equivalent experience in a machine shop environment Proven ability working with medium to heavy steel components Borer experience (vertical and/or horizontal) – strong advantage Dogging ticket and/or forklift licence (beneficial) Experience in fitting, assembly, or heavy fabrication will be well regarded Strong focus on safety, precision, and job ownership What’s on Offer Excellent pay rates – extra for borer experience Regular overtime available Saturday work encouraged for those wanting additional hours Varied, challenging work in a true jobbing workshop environment Opportunity to work independently on unique, large-scale projects If you take pride in quality machining and enjoy the challenge of tackling heavy, one-off jobs rather than repetitive production work, we’d love to hear from you.
