About the Role In accordance with the Safe Patient Care Act (2015) , the NUM – Acute Services is an experienced Registered Nurse responsible for the operational, clinical, and strategic leadership of acute services at MDH. Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Services , you will: Provide high-quality, person-centred care through effective leadership of the acute care and dialysis teams; Manage departmental resources within a continuous quality improvement framework; Act as the primary point of contact for Executive and acute care staff; Provide clinical expertise, mentorship, and role modelling to support the development of nursing staff; Work collaboratively with the After-Hours Coordinator group and your NUM colleagues; Oversee daily activities of the Acute, Urgent Care and Dialysis Units, including management of portfolios in consultation with the Director of Clinical Services. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Culture Model MDH’s commitment to Great Care and uphold organisational values Lead with kindness, integrity, accountability, and composure Foster collaborative, multidisciplinary teamwork Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders Conduct regular staff meetings and mentor less experienced staff Clinical & Operational Leadership Provide clinical, logistical, and operational oversight for acute, Urgent Care and dialysis services Manage emergencies including codes and surgical emergency responses Lead and oversee incident management, reporting, and documentation Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies Ensure all care aligns with professional practice standards Governance, Safety & Quality Implement and monitor standards, policies, legislation, and procedures Maintain knowledge of NSQHSS, Aged Care Standards, and Community Care Standards Contribute to MDH’s quality and safety systems, governance structures, and accreditation Support attainment of ISO 9001:2008 and National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards Resource & Performance Management Oversee staff recruitment, induction, rostering, and performance management Support staff development and professional growth Participate in business planning, budget development, and financial monitoring Provide timely reports to the Director of Clinical Services Participate in leadership forums such as Finance & Accountability and NUM meetings About You We’re looking for an experienced and energetic leader who is passionate about rural health and making a meaningful difference in their community. You’ll bring: Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) and current AHPRA registration Minimum 5 years’ post-registration experience Proven leadership experience within acute or urgent care settings Strong communication, problem-solving, and people-management skills A commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement Desirable: Postgraduate qualifications in acute care and/or management Experience managing budgets and leading diverse teams A collaborative, values-driven leadership style Why Mansfield District Hospital?
