Avant Mutual is looking for a Senior Claims Manager to join our civil claims team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role will report directly to the Claims Team Manager. In addition to applicants from an MDO background, this role would be perfect for a practising solicitor who is looking to step away from billable hours and looking for work-life balance. Consideration would be given to 4 days per week for the right applicant. The key responsibilities include: Managing a large portfolio of complex litigated civil claims; Providing support and guidance to members throughout the claims process; Proactively formulating claims management strategies to achieve the best possible outcomes for our members; Providing evidence-based settlement and reserve proposals with reference to breach, causation and quantum. Providing guidance and advice to claims manager colleagues; Partnering with Solicitors in the support of our members throughout the claim lifecycle; Reviewing and confirming indemnity decisions; Contributing to Avant’s claims services including special projects. To be successful in this role you will have: Tertiary qualifications in law or health; Solicitors with a valid practising certificate will be highly regarded; At least 5 years’ experience in medical negligence claims, either in insurance claims management or law firm environments; Strong understanding of current health and insurance legislation; Strong understanding of breach, causation and quantum principles. Demonstrated expertise in assessing damages in medical negligence claims; Strategic insight and commercial acumen; Independent thinking and the ability to formulate settlement and reserve proposals based on evidence-based analysis; Strong time management skills; Excellent communication and relationship building skills; Proven ability to work in an electronic document management system; and Strong relationship building and negotiation skills.
