We’re looking for a motivated Apprentice Horticulturalist ready to grow with the team. Thanks to NSW Government funding and support through the “fresh start for local government apprentices, trainees and cadets” program, we have an exciting opportunity available in our Parks and Gardens team. The Opportunity Register as an Australian Apprentice to attain a nationally recognised qualification, Certificate III in Horticulture Parks & Gardens that combines formal study with paid on-the-job training and hands-on experience working as a member of Council's Parks and Gardens team. About You We’re looking for someone who is: Passionate about horticulture, gardening, and outdoor work Physically able to work in various weather conditions Reliable, punctual, and eager to learn A good communicator and a team player Willing to undertake a formal horticulture qualification as part of the apprenticeship No prior experience is required—just a keen interest in horticulture and a strong desire to grow your skills. What You’ll Be Doing Assisting with planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, watering, and general plant care Learning to identify plants, pests, and diseases Helping maintain gardens, parks, and landscaped areas to a high standard Operating horticultural tools and equipment safely Supporting seasonal projects such as propagation, bed preparation, and landscape enhancement Working collaboratively with a skilled horticulture team Following workplace health and safety procedures at all times Conditions Term contract for 4 years Full time employment 76 hours in a 9-day fortnight 100% funded by Council including tuition fees, textbooks and other related expenses Attendance at CIT in work hours Why Join Yass Valley Council At Yass Valley Council, we don’t just offer jobs – we build careers.
