The Biosecurity Strategy and Reform Division strengthens Australia's national biosecurity system through evidence-based policy, strategic reform, and innovation. Working closely with stakeholders, the division drives national response efforts and system improvement by delivering strategic advice, enhancing transparency, supporting research, and enhancing situational awareness. Our work is aligned with the National Biosecurity Strategy and Biosecurity 2030 Roadmap. We lead improvements to Australia's biosecurity system and support responses to exotic pests and diseases. This includes developing and managing biosecurity policies, preparedness programs, and coordinating national emergency responses. We oversee the National Biosecurity Strategy and manage responses to independent reviews. As an Assistant Director you will exercise a high level of independence to lead complex and sensitive work that supports strategic decision-making across the biosecurity group and nationally. You will manage governance for external stakeholder committees and drive implementation through policy development, stakeholder negotiation, strategic governance improvements, and performance reporting. Your leadership will strengthen collaboration, enhance policy outcomes, and ensure effective delivery of national biosecurity priorities. As an Assistant Director, your duties will include but are not limited to: Developing, analysing and implementing policy solutions to complex challenges. Developing and delivering monitoring & evaluation frameworks, and annual reporting. Negotiating key biosecurity frameworks with government and industry stakeholders. Effectively managing secretariat functions to support strategic decision-making. Developing and implementing improvements to strategic governance processes. Preparing or leading the development of high-quality briefs, reports, submissions and correspondence. Representing the branch, division and/or department at stakeholder meetings. Managing staff including developing workplans for your sub-team, mentoring and coaching.
