About the role DroneShield is seeking a Senior Platforms Engineer to join our Platforms DevX Team in Sydney, NSW. The Platforms DevX team is a small, high-impact group focused on making engineering effortless - building tools, platforms, and workflows that let developers focus on building, not battling their environments. We simplify complexity to deliver speed, reliability, and a seamless developer experience across every stage of the development journey. As part of this team, you’ll lead the build-out of observability and telemetry, design, build, and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines, automate AWS and hybrid infrastructure, and improve developer environments to reduce friction and increase velocity. Your work will directly influence DORA metrics, including deployment frequency, lead time, MTTR, and change failure rate, driving efficiency and reliability for all engineering teams. This role reports to the Platforms Lead. Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations Lead the build-out of observability and telemetry coverage (metrics, logs, traces). Build, evolve, and support DroneShield’s CI/CD systems and workflows. Define and manage infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible across AWS, on-prem, and hybrid environments. Automate developer environments and internal tooling to reduce friction and improve velocity. Implement security and compliance guardrails through automated systems. Develop self-service platform capabilities for internal engineering teams. Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams, driving best practices and high-quality delivery. Track and improve DORA metrics (deployment frequency, lead time, MTTR, change failure rate). Qualifications, Experience and Skills Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams. Strong experience with observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry). Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling (ideally GitLab). Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform and Ansible across AWS and on-prem environments. Experience with Bash and configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible, SaltStack, Puppet, Chef). Understanding of DevSecOps principles and applying security best practices across pipelines. Strong focus on developer experience, platform reliability, and efficiency. Understanding of platform-as-product principles and continuous improvement of internal tooling. Nice to have Programming or scripting experience with Python or Go. Experience with secrets management tooling (e.g. Vault, SOPS, AWS Secrets Manager). Familiarity with DORA metrics and using telemetry or automation to drive improvement.
