Be the Frontline of Customer Service and Sustainability Join Wollongong City Council in a role that combines customer service, problem-solving, and environmental responsibility. As a Weighbridge Operator , you’ll be the first point of contact for customers at our Waste and Resource Recovery Park, ensuring accurate transactions, safe operations, and a positive experience for every visitor. About the position This is a dynamic, hands-on position where no two days are the same. You’ll manage weighbridge operations, provide advice on waste services, and troubleshoot issues in a fast-paced environment. From reconciling transactions to guiding customers through regulations and processes, you’ll play a key role in diverting waste from landfill and supporting Council’s sustainability goals. You’ll also assist with administrative tasks, maintain accurate data using systems like Mandalay and Microsoft 365, and occasionally support site operations such as traffic flow and emergency management. Hours require availability from 7:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend work, overtime, and on-call requirements as needed. This is a hands-on role; applicants must be physically capable of undertaking manual tasks relating to the role. Safety Commitment: Safety is a top priority in this role. You’ll be expected to follow all workplace health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of equipment and materials. You’ll contribute to a safe working environment for both the team and the community. What you will be doing Greeting customers and providing friendly, professional service at the weighbridge. Accurately processing transactions and reconciling daily payments and data records. Advising customers on waste disposal options and Council services. Using systems such as Mandalay and Microsoft 365 to record and report weighbridge data. Troubleshooting issues and maintaining smooth operations when systems or processes fail. Supporting site safety through traffic flow, emergency procedures, and compliance with WHS requirements. Performing general cleaning and maintenance of weighbridge equipment. Occasionally assisting with site opening/closing and operational duties. About you You’re someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys being the go-to person for customers. You stay calm under pressure, even when systems fail or challenges arise, and you can think on your feet to find solutions. You’re confident with technology, quick to learn new systems, and comfortable handling payments and data accurately. You bring a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety and teamwork. Class C Driver Licence. SafeWork NSW General Construction Induction Card (White Card) or willingness to obtain within 3 months. Physical capability to perform site duties.
