The key duties of the position include The Role The APS 5 Logistic Assurance Officer will work within the CHSPO Business Management Unit and is responsible to the Logistic Governance and Assurance Team Leader for the delivery of logistical governance and assurance activities for CHSPO. The role will require the successful candidate to work within a framework of legislation, Commonwealth policies, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence's mission and business objectives. The successful candidate will engage in moderately complex problem solving, issues management and may coordinate internal and external stakeholder engagement. The duties of an APS5 Logistics Assurance Officer occupation in Defence include the following: Prepare, perform and monitor compliance, assurance, and audit activities on SPO business units and assets. Through interpretation and compliance with legislation, regulatory frameworks and Department policy achieve organisational objectives and the provision of advice to SPO business units. Through collaboration establish and sustain effective relationships with the SPO community and key stakeholders. Analyse compliance and assurance outputs and prepare detailed reports with recommendations on audit results. Develop responses to correspondence; prepare briefs and reports for management. This role has been identified as requiring access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) controlled technology. The ITAR is United States (US) law, which regulates Defence articles, including technical data, and defence services on the United States Munitions List. Access restrictions may apply based on currently held/previously held citizenship, as well as current permanent residency. Defence may be able to utilise workforce exemptions to mitigate these restrictions, which generally requires that applicants provide details of all current citizenships and permanent residencies, as well as previously held citizenships. About our Team The Business Management Unit is responsible for the delivery of Corporate Services and in conjunction with Branch, People and Workforce Management functions across the Program Office. We are accountable for the delivery of and coordination of corporate support services across our multiple work locations. Corporate Services performed by the BMU comprise Logistics Governance and Assurance, and Business Governance and Assurance (which is further broken down into the areas of Information and Records Management, internal Financial Management, Workforce Management, Security, WHS & Risk Management). This position resides within the BMU (CHSPO) however also provides support to the Uncrewed Aircraft Systems Program Office (UASPO). UASPO is a newly formed SPO and is based in Brisbane, with detachments located in Canberra, Adelaide and Melbourne. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate has experience in: Integrated Logistics Support (ILS). Knowledge of Defence logistics operations, including distribution, maintenance, security, and equipment management. Ability to conduct internal audits, stocktake, and producing complex reports using Defence Logistic Information Systems. Understanding or ability to understand Defence logistics legislation and policy frameworks governing stocktaking and inventory control. Experience in applying compliance standards to ensure accurate asset accountability, audit readiness, and operational transparency. Ability to interpret and implement Defence instructions, procedural documents, and governance requirements to support logistics assurance and continuous improvement.
