Job Summary – Heavy Vehicle Mechanic Purpose The Heavy Vehicle Mechanic provides mechanical services on customer transport equipment, focusing on safety, quality, and efficiency . The role supports Freighter Group's strategy to be the leading supplier of equipment, parts, and services across Australasia. Key Responsibilities Perform allocated mechanical tasks on trailers and transport equipment. Service, repair, and recondition trailer equipment (brakes, suspensions, axles, air systems, electrical). Ensure tasks meet quality, safety, and efficiency standards. Accurately record materials, complete task documentation, and return parts. Support WIP close-out, collaborate on problem-solving, and follow SOPs. Maintain a safe, clean workspace and complete risk assessments. Lead by example, assisting teammates and collaborating with service and sales teams. Road test vehicles when licensed and required. Promote customer commitments: safety, respect, effective communication, integrity, continual improvement, and cost efficiency. Health & Safety Report all incidents, injuries, and near misses. Wear correct PPE and maintain compliance with HSE standards. Participate in safety initiatives, hazard identification, and risk assessments. Qualifications & Experience Education: Trade qualification or equivalent. Experience: Automotive, heavy vehicle, transport, or commercial plant maintenance. Expertise in trailer brakes, air systems, and general heavy vehicle repairs. Strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills.
