About the role As the lead for our Banking Operatations for Banking at Tyro, you will play a critical role in ensuring that Tyro’s Banking products are operated with world class quality, efficiency, consistency and in a compliant manner. Working alongside product managers, designers, engineers, risk specialists and business stakeholders, you will be the connective tissue that helps our customers be able to transact in a high assurance and high quality. This is an ideal role for someone who has significant banking operations experience, can build highly effective processes, can troubleshoot process issues and find where our customers and partners are experiencing friction. This person is logical, understands banking compliance and banking regulations and how we report to those organisations. They understand banking data and operations and how settlements work and how sometimes there are issues that we need to troubleshoot on behalf of the customer. This person will also understand the reporting obligations that we have for banking and the requirements that we need to live up to. A passion for helping customers and works well in a high-performing product organisation. Product Rituals & Operating Rhythms: Design, coordinate, and continuously evolve our bank operations, meeting cadences, interfaces with other teams such as Finance, Risk, and vendors and also work on individual investigative issues as they happen. Work with product to ensure that our systems and processes are built to a robust standard and that we put in permanent corrective actions as incidents happen. Manage the reports that we are required to generated for various financial regulatory organisations such as the ATO, APRA, ASIC etc. Bring structure and impact to how our Bank operates plan, execute, and measure product initiatives across a complex, multi-squad environment. Reporting & Insight: Drive the quality of our processes, the delivery of our banking products at an operational level, compliance of our banking products, and ensure that our bank customers experience is excellent. Review and ensure the bank has appropriate operational dashboards, metrics that are fit for purpose and help with crafting reports for management and the board. Process & Tooling: Identify bottlenecks, friction points, and inconsistencies in the banking operations —then lead the design and implementation of scalable improvements. Champion internal tooling and documentation hygiene, ensuring teams are equipped with the right resources and clarity. Highlight improvement opportunities to common artefacts such as dashboards, metrics, operational reports and other key documents across the portfolio Work with Finance on reporting such as AIIR, CRS, ATO, FCS and TFN. Manage investigations and triage issues such as settlements, charge back, report inconsistencies and missing data required by the regulatory bodies. Governance, Risk & Compliance: Partner with risk and compliance teams to ensure product squads are meeting their obligations, including monitoring of control execution and proactive issue remediation. Maintain visibility over policy changes and translate requirements into product team workflows. Be familiar with schemes such as Visa, NPP, BPAY and compliance frameworks such as CPS-230 Team Culture & Onboarding: Play a key role in building a strong, connected banking culture that reflects Tyro’s values - facilitating initiatives that improve team cohesion, collaboration, and trust. Own and continually improve the running the bank when it comes to onboarding new product team members, helping them hit the ground running with clarity on “what our bank is at Tyro.” Cross-Functional Enablement: Serve as a trusted point of coordination between Finance, Risk, Product, Engineering, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Legal—bringing alignment around operational initiatives. Facilitate clear roles, responsibilities and decision-making frameworks (e.g. DACIs) across initiatives. Performance Indicators Operational excellence: Quality, consistency, and adoption of product rituals, documentation and reporting. Team engagement: Increased team clarity, cohesion, and connection to Tyro’s product culture. Risk alignment: Strong product team adherence to regulatory and compliance obligations. Process improvement: Reduction in inefficiencies and increased team productivity. Compliance impact: Ensure that all of Tyros banking obligations are met. Skills and Experience Required 5 years in banking operations, preferably within a Fintech organisation. Experience designing and executing complex operating rhythms at scale. Excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills; you’re comfortable working with everyone from Finance, Risk, Product and Engineering. Deep empathy for product teams and a passion for enabling them to do their best work. Ability to balance structure and flexibility - knowing when to formalise and when to adapt. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and a knack for simplifying the complex. Proficiency in using product collaboration and planning tools (e.g. Confluence, Jira, Asana, Notion, Airtable). What’s in it for you?
