Skillforce Recruitment are currently seeking Qualified Blaster Painters for Local Work based in Naval Base - Temp to Perm Opportunity / Key Responsibilities Surface Preparation : Prepare surfaces for painting by removing old coatings, rust, grease, and other imperfections using hand/power tools (grinders, sanders, needle guns) and abrasive or water blasting equipment. Coating Application : Apply a variety of industrial coatings, including primers, sealers, epoxies, polyurethanes, and zinc-rich primers using application methods such as conventional, airless, and plural spray systems, as well as brushes and rollers. Equipment Operation and Maintenance : Set up, operate, and maintain blasting and painting equipment, including spray guns, hoses, nozzles, and blast pots. Clean equipment using appropriate solvents. Quality Control : Inspect finished surfaces to ensure quality standards, correct film thickness, and compliance with project specifications and technical drawings. Material Management : Measure and mix coating solutions to desired colours and consistencies according to specifications and track material usage. Safety and Compliance : Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (HSEQ) policies and procedures, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (e.g., blast helmet, full-body suit, respirator). Work Environment : Work in various industrial settings, which may include working at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying weather conditions. General Duties : Maintain a clean and tidy work area, assist with general yard duties, and perform other trade-based tasks as directed by a supervisor. Skills and Qualifications Experience : Prior experience (typically 2 years) in an industrial blasting and painting environment is generally required. Technical Skills : Proficiency in various surface preparation techniques and coating application methods, including airless spray painting and abrasive blasting. Licences/Certifications : A relevant trade certificate (e.g., Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application), a driver's licence, and specific certifications like Working at Heights, Confined Space, and Forklift/Dogging tickets are often required. Physical Fitness : The role is physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift heavy equipment, stand for long periods, and perform manual labour in challenging environments. Soft Skills : Strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently or as part of a team, good communication skills, and a strong safety-first mentality are essential.
