The Role: Join Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) as our Senior Property Officer, where you’ll play a key role in managing and delivering property-related projects that support our strategic and operational goals. In this hands-on role, you’ll oversee a range of property leasing, acquisition, and valuation processes, ensuring all activities are delivered to a high standard and in line with legislative and organisational requirements. This is a part-time (0.6 FTE) position offered on a 12-month contract, providing flexibility and meaningful work within a values-driven organisation. Key responsibilities include: Managing property-related matters, including commercial leases, land acquisitions, and valuations. Supporting financial analysis and lease modelling to inform strategic property decisions. Ensuring all property activities comply with relevant legislation, including the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act. Coordinating due diligence, procurement, and reporting across multiple projects. Developing and maintaining relationships with key government and industry bodies, including the Valuer General and Victorian Government Land Monitor. Identifying and maintaining a register of land with future development potential. Building trusted relationships with internal stakeholders including Infrastructure, Finance, and Operational Services teams. Promoting SMCT’s values and commitment to sustainability, safety, and excellence in all aspects of your work. Your Profile: You’re an experienced property professional who thrives on managing complex projects, navigating legislative frameworks, and delivering practical outcomes. You bring commercial acumen, strong stakeholder skills, and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and operational delivery. To be successful in this role, you will have: Extensive experience in land acquisition or property management within the public or private sector. Strong communication and relationship management skills across all levels of stakeholders. Proven capability in financial analysis, cost-benefit evaluations, and project planning. Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills, with a focus on achieving balanced outcomes. A sound understanding of property legislation and compliance requirements. High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Property Valuation, Project Management, Architecture, or a related discipline. A current Australian Driver’s Licence and proficiency in MS Office applications.
