We’re seeking an experienced and proactive Accountant to join our Client’s Finance Team on a fixed-term, part-time basis (0.8 FTE). This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on financial management, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is ready to assume temporary responsibility for financial operations when key finance personnel are on leave. As part of the Professional Support Services Division, you’ll play an integral role in ensuring the smooth delivery of financial operations, providing high-quality reporting and analysis, and supporting the organisation’s transition to a new management accounting system. You’ll be the go-to person for month-end and year-end processes, providing internal and external reporting, reviewing budgets, forecasts and actual results with divisional directors and project managers. This role will suit someone who can confidently "step up" - someone who’s done the work before, can hit the ground running, and can communicate clearly and effectively with senior leaders. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Manage month-end close, ensuring accuracy and timeliness (by Business Day 3) Prepare internal and external reports, including Board and FARM reports Partner with project leads and divisional managers to review budgets, forecasts, and actual results Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes Provide financial analysis across multiple projects Assist with system enhancements and process improvements About You You’re a qualified accountant who’s comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative team. You bring strong technical skills, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly and confidently to non-financial stakeholders. Essential: Tertiary qualification in Accounting CA/CPA qualification Experience managing end-of-month and year-end close Skilled in financial analysis, project reporting, and forecasting Advanced Excel skills Strong organisational and communication skills Ability to work on-site at least two days per week (Wednesday Included). Desirable: Experience using Xero Experience in project accounting or with research/academic funding Exposure to system change or implementation Role Details Classification: Fixed-term, 0.8 FTE Location: Parkville (offices are accessible by tram, paid parking available) Period: Covering key financial cycles (forecasts in December, budgeting in April, and year-end)
