The ACT Parliamentary Counsel’s Office is seeking applications from qualified people for the above legislative drafting position. Assistant Parliamentary Counsel 1 (APC1) is a broad band, ranging from entry level positions for lawyers who have not had significant experience in providing legislative drafting services elsewhere to lawyers who are experienced drafters. The primary role of an Assistant Parliamentary Counsel 1 will be to: Under supervision, draft bills for the Government and non-Executive members of the Legislative Assembly, draft subordinate laws (regulations and court/tribunal procedural rules), and provide legislative advice Work in drafting teams and assist in the management of drafting projects Actively participate in activities aimed at developing a cooperative and high performing workplace including serving on office committees and working on office projects. Eligibility/Other Requirements: Admission to practice as a legal practitioner of the ACT Supreme Court, the High Court, or the Supreme Court of a State or another Territory is required. At least 3 - 5 years post-admission legal experience. Experience with drafting primary and subordinate legislation is desirable. Notes: An order of merit may be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future permanent or temporary APC1 vacancies over the next 12 months.
