Tagai State College comprises 16 Primary Campuses and 1 Secondary Campus across 15 Islands and 48 000 square kilometres in the beautiful Torres Strait. This position is based at the Secondary Campus on Thursday Island. Tagai State College in partnership with KNTAC, has secured funding to implement a Junior Rangers immersion program, from Grade 9 -12. This program uses a strength based model of education and will involve creating and fostering strong links with Kaurareg Traditional Owners and other rangers throughout the region. Junior Rangers aims to engage students in their education through the acquisition of skills that will enable them to effectively care for country, develop strong cultural identity, graduate Year 12 and transition to employment, ideally as rangers. About the Junior Rangers teacher role:This role includes (but is not limited to) the following responsiblities: Develop and implement a Junior Rangers curriculum program that meets guidelines, and engages students. This includes teaching Cert II Conservation and Ecosystem Management, and other courses such as Cert II Skills for Work, Short Course in Numeracy, Short Course in Literacy. This will vary on the Grade being taught, however as an immersion program, these courses will be delivered in the context of Junior Rangers, notably Conservation, sustainability and effective land management. Deliver the Junior Rangers program to a small class of Grade 9-12 students. This will be expanded in years to come. Follow DOE Guidelines to lead on-country learning experiences in partnership with KNTAC Rangers that aligns to curriculum and develops student interest Work collaboratively with KNTAC Rangers to grow student cultural identity, through developing students love of country, and facilitating mentoring. Promote liaison activities for the SchoolTech program to provide information to parents, the school and its community, and facilitate community development activities to improve relations between the school and its community.
