About the team Transport Operations is responsible for the planning, delivery and operational management of enhancements to the City of Gold Coast’s transport network. Our Mission is to plan, deliver and manage a modern local transport system that contributes to the City’s smart growth and enables residents and visitors to make sustainable travel choices and enjoy the Gold Coast lifestyle. Our team works under the strategic intent of the City of Gold Coast’s Corporate Plan and implement the Gold Coast City Transport Strategy 2031.This framework seeks to ensure the city has a safe and efficient transport system which is responsive to the needs of the community and supports the achievement of economic, environmental and social objectives. We work closely with many delivery partners, including the City’s development and land use planning teams and the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, to plan and manage the transport system as 'one network' About your new role You will put safety at the centre of the Gold Coast infrastructure and engineer innovative solutions for the City's traffic and transport! Support the Coordinators of Traffic Engineering by providing professional advice in relation to the planning and operation of a safe, efficient and sustainable transport system. Key responsibilities: • Conduct autonomous field investigations. • Respond to customer and Councillor requests utilising Council’s customer request management software. • Identify solutions to complex traffic management, road safety, parking, pedestrian, cyclist and public transport issues. • Prepare reports and correspondence in relation to transport and traffic engineering matters, including Council Committee Agenda Items. • Review correspondence prepared by others within the team. • Develop and review signage and line marking plans. • Undertake road safety audits, crash investigations and speed limit reviews. • Provide input into the development of internal policies and procedures. • Investigate and respond to serious injury crashes through the Crash Investigation Alliance to determine engineering treatment options to mitigate future crash risks. • Provide traffic engineering advice to support the Active School Travel program, including implementing the signage, line marking and minor works improvements from the safe routes to school audits. • Assist the Coordinator Traffic Engineering with the management of the team, including recruitment, mentoring and guidance of less experienced team members. • Review infrastructure design drawings and provide feedback to ensure compliance with relevant standards and Council policies. • Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders including residents, Councillors and State Government agencies. We're looking for people who have: • Bachelor Degree of Civil Engineering, or equivalent or demonstrated equivalent experience and knowledge working in the traffic and transport sector. • At least 5 years working in the traffic and transport sector –traffic engineering and transport planning experience is preferred. • Highly developed interpersonal, time management, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills ensuring consistency and clarity of advice. • Demonstrated ability to prepare reports and correspondence for a wide range of stakeholders. • Highly developed analytical, problem solving and investigative skills with the ability to provide sound advice, options and recommendations to influence positive outcomes. • Demonstrated ability to grow and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders and service providers both internal and external. • Drivers licence class C unrestricted • WHS Licence General Construction White Card or ability to obtain before commencement Be part of shaping the Gold Coast's future The Gold Coast is inspired by lifestyle and driven by opportunity.
