We are looking for Physicians experienced in General Medicine who will commit to the delivery of General Medicine Service provisions and development within the ISLHD. The Visiting Medical Officers will have the opportunity to work with a group of Physicians at Wollongong Hospital with specialty expertise in neurology, cardiology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, rheumatology, endocrinology, renal medicine, medical oncology, radiation oncology and haematology. The position will be primarily located at Shoalhaven Hospital and may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved via the Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC) to other facilities in ISLHD. In addition to providing a high level of care in general medicine, you will be expected to bring to the Department an area of expertise likely to enhance the breadth and depth of services available in the district. You will participate in Medical Grand Rounds and other duties as agreed with the Head of Department. Shoalhaven Hospital is a teaching hospital of the University of Wollongong and as such all members of this Unit participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has responsibility for health services in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region – a catchment area extending along the coastline from Helensburgh in the north to North Durras in the south with over 400,000 residents. This catchment covers four Local Government Areas (LGAs): Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven. ISLHD operates eight hospital sites in Coledale, Bulli, Wollongong, Port Kembla, Shellharbour, Berry, Shoalhaven and Milton Ulladulla, and community health services operating from approximately 58 locations across the region. Shoalhaven Hospital, located on Yuin Country, is the main acute care hospital for the Shoalhaven region, providing emergency care, medical, surgical, obstetric, paediatric, rehabilitation, palliative care and orthopaedic services. The hospital has an Intensive Care Unit focusing on high dependency and coronary patients, Children’s Ward and Maternity Unit, as well as a purpose-built regional Cancer Care Centre and sub-acute Mental Health Unit.
