We currently have an exciting opportunity for you to join our City Assets team as a Diesel Mechanic. In this role you will play a key part in supporting the maintenance standards of our Fleet and Equipment and contributing to community safety during extreme weather events. Key responsibilities of the position include: Maintain and repair Council’s fleet of heavy and light vehicles, plant, equipment, pumping stations, and mechanical infrastructure. Diagnose and rectify faults across hydraulic, pneumatic, and auto-electrical systems. Participate in a 24-hour pumping station call-out and maintenance roster. Operate and maintain plant, equipment, and tools required for the role. The successful applicant will have: An Australian recognised trade certificate as a Diesel Mechanic or equivalent. Current unrestricted Driver’s Licence of MR or higher is essential. Extensive experience servicing and repairing major and minor plant, vehicles, and equipment. Skilled in auto-electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, including fault diagnosis and troubleshooting. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role is desirable. Ability to assess mechanical problems and carry out accurate repairs. Strong customer service skills to gather information for effective fault assessment. Welding and fabrication experience is desirable. Advanced knowledge of mechanical principles and demonstrated technical competence. Solid understanding of heavy and light vehicle, plant, and equipment maintenance and repair. Knowledge of safe machinery and plant operation, including handling of hazardous materials. Understanding of green fleet servicing and maintenance requirements is desirable. Please note: As part of the 24-hour pumping station operations, you will be required to participate in an on-call roster for one week each month. Flexible or part-time arrangements can be considered for the preferred applicant. This is a Grade 6 position which has a current salary range of $88,796 (plus Super).
