The Role As a feedlot farmhand, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operations of our 3,000-head NFAS-accredited feedlot and surrounding farming enterprise. This is a hands-on role involving livestock handling, feeding, and maintenance tasks that support the health, performance, and welfare of cattle and the overall efficiency of the farm. Your responsibilities will include various aspects of cattle work and animal husbandry, such as processing and treatments. You will be required to handle and apply animal health products and veterinary chemicals safely, ensuring the well-being of all livestock. Accurate data recording is essential, using systems such as StockaID and BMS to support daily operations, quality assurance procedures and compliance with work health and safety requirements is also a part of your role. In addition, you will assist with maintaining clean and safe pen conditions and ensure the proper operation and a suitable environment for the cattle. Safe operation and upkeep of machinery and vehicles, including tractors, loaders, and bobcats, are crucial tasks in your daily routine. You should demonstrate initiative and be capable of working autonomously when needed. A strong problem-solving mindset, coupled with a mature and rational approach will help you succeed in this role. The role is primarily Monday to Friday, occasional weekend work may be required depending on operational needs. The Offer The candidate will be offered a competitive hourly rate that will be based on their skills and experience. An on-site work vehicle will be provided, along with the necessary tools and equipment to perform the job. The property is situated just 10 kilometres from the charming rural town of Allora, known as "the friendliest town on the downs." It is also 26 kilometres from the larger centre of Warwick and 71 kilometres from Toowoomba. The Ideal Candidate It is crucial for the candidate to possess prior experience in a feedlot or an intensive cattle environment, along with the following skills and attributes Must have a current driver's licence. Familiarity with cattle management software (StockaID and BMS preferred). A passion for animal welfare and cattle husbandry. Relevant formal qualifications or extensive on-farm experience. Experience in milling feed and feeding cattle is advantageous. Adaptable to changing plans. Positive attitude and good problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills. Capable of working alone and in a team environment.
