The Opportunity Sun Metals is seeking a Graduate Electrical Engineer for a 24-month fixed-term contract . This role offers a unique opportunity to work on multidisciplinary engineering projects from design through to commissioning, while gaining hands-on experience and mentorship in a world-class industrial environment. You’ll support the design, documentation, and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems , working alongside experienced engineers on impactful projects. Description Key Responsibilities Assist in the design and documentation of electrical and instrumentation systems including schematics, loop diagrams, and cable schedules. Support the selection and specification of instruments, sensors, actuators, and control devices. Participate in site surveys, data collection, and design evaluations. Contribute to Bills of Materials (BOMs), panel layouts, and system documentation. Assist in commissioning activities such as loop checks, functional testing , and fault troubleshooting. Ensure compliance with relevant standards ( AS/NZS 3000, IEC, ISO ) and client specifications. Work collaboratively across engineering disciplines (mechanical, process, automation). Engage in continuous learning through hands-on work, feedback, and structured mentoring. What You’ll Bring Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical , Instrumentation , or Mechatronics Engineering . Solid academic grounding in circuit theory , control systems , and instrumentation . Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN). Basic knowledge of PLCs , SCADA systems , and industrial communication protocols. Skills And Experiences Desirable Skills Internship or project experience in mining, energy, industrial automation , or infrastructure. Exposure to SCADA/PLC architecture , SIS systems, or hazardous area design. Understanding of functional safety and SIL-rated systems (a plus). Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and work in dynamic environments.
