Where you'll be working Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital is a major metropolitan teaching hospital. Patients can access a range of services including coronary care, intensive care, orthopaedics, general medicine, surgical, obstetric, respiratory, rehabilitation, paediatric, maternity and emergency care. The hospital also provides a wide range of outpatient services including allied health, dental and podiatry clinics, child, adolescent and family health, drug and alcohol, health promotion and rehabilitation and aged care. An acute mental health service is co-located at Hornsby Hospital. The new $265 million Stage 2 redevelopment was officially opened in June 2022. For more information https://www.nslhd.health.nsw.gov.au/Hornsby/Pages/default.aspx What you'll be doing The primary purpose of the Career Medical Officer (CMO) is to provide independent, high level medical care, including responsibility for the assessment, investigation and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department and admitted to inpatient wards.The CMO will be supervised by specialist staff, and provide supervision and support to junior medical staff in the Emergency Department. The CMO will act as the Senior Emergency Department/Ward Doctor after hours, in coordination with the Doctor in Charge to provide CPR to critically ill adult and paediatric patients. The role at Hornsby Hospital will include senior shifts across a number of areas within the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department CMO is required to work a 24/7 rotating roster. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role A minimum of 5 years of postgraduate experience, including extensive, recent experience in emergency medicine/critical care medicine, including a minimum of one year undertaking an in-charge role. Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care. Advanced written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others members of the health care team. Advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education. .
