Description About the Role As an Electrical Engineer at Downer, you’ll play a key role in the development of safe, reliable, and cost-effective electrical designs for new and existing rolling stock systems. You’ll be responsible for: Preparing engineering specifications, reports, calculations, layouts, production drawings, and cost estimates Developing reference designs and integration plans for new electrical systems Supporting production, maintenance, and commissioning teams with timely engineering advice Diagnosing fleet-wide issues and driving technical solutions Ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and contractual standards Key Responsibilities Lead design and analysis of electrical components including auxiliaries, traction systems, and main power Conduct maintainability, human factors, and safety hazard reviews Raise and approve Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Instructions (EIs) Collaborate with planners, suppliers, and production teams to ensure manufacturability and schedule alignment Develop test procedures and support verification activities Provide technical direction and support across the delivery lifecycle What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering Demonstrated initiative, strong problem-solving capabilities, and excellent communication skills. Working towards Chartered Engineer status and relevant registrations 5 years’ experience in rolling stock desirable Proficiency in electrical simulation and systems engineering Knowledge of Australian and international standards Why Downer?
