Secondment or fixed term opportunity Based at our Melbourne, Burwood Campus or Geelong, Waurn Ponds Campus hybrid work arrangements Two positions available: Full time and fixed term for years Full time and fixed term for 7 months HEW 7 $105,933 - $116,643 17% Superannuation About the team and role Research Finance are a specialist Finance function that support Research across Deakin, managing all aspects of research funding, both internal and external such as grants, research related revenue and reporting. The Accountant, Research works collaboratively with the Senior Manager, Research Finance and Research Accountants to provide external and internal research related financial services with a broad range of high-level and complex financial management, reporting and planning responsibilities. Specifically, the Accountant, Research will assist in the preparation of timely monthly reporting and reconciliations and budget and forecast submissions. The position will apply a high standard, culture and practice for application of research expenditure to ensure the most efficient utilisation of Deakin resources As an Accountant, you will: Collaborate closely with members of the Research and Innovation Portfolio, Faculty Researchers, Senior and Specialist Finance staff/teams within Finance and Assurance whilst maintaining effective communication with stakeholders. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of reporting, budget allocation/adjustments, revenue accounts/transactions and the effective management and monitoring of expenditure and reporting on variances to all key stakeholders on a regular basis. Provide support to research community across the University to ensure that research projects and reporting is performed on timely and accurate manner and accordingly to the relevant legislation and accounting standards. Support senior accountants/leaders with escalations and specialist advice. Engage in process improvement activities and adopt new ideas to ensure that funding and expenditure is spent in accordance with strategy and best practice. Seek feedback on improvement opportunities from a diverse range of key stakeholders and implement change through appropriate channels and overcomes obstacles to change, including providing support and assistance to develop, co-ordinate and enhance processes and practices for budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, long term financial planning and key performance metrics through proactive identification of information gaps and inefficient processes. To be successful, you’ll have: An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Certified Practising Accountant / Chartered Accountant (or studying towards completion) is desired Experience at a senior administrative level in financial administration and related activities, preferably in a University or other large organisation with complex administrative structures, policies and procedures Relevant experience in the preparation and monitoring of complex budgets and performance reports Research grant/contract financial management experience is highly desired Here's how to apply: Open only to casual, fixed term and continuing staff at Deakin.
