SMYL is a not-for-profit community-based organisation that is seeking to appoint an innovative and experienced Aboriginal staff member as a Jobs and Skills Centre Officer. Western Australia's TAFE Jobs and Skills Centres are one-stop shops for careers, training and employment advice and assistance. Services are free, and accessible to all members of the community. This role involves: Providing free professional and practical advice on training and employment opportunities including careers advice, apprenticeship and training information. Support services for employers and business. Specialist services for Aboriginal people Providing an online jobs board, to connect jobseekers with employment opportunities and to help employers attract and recruit employees The successful applicant will have well established links within the region enabling them to work collaboratively with local stake holders including schools, employers, agencies and community service providers to: Promote and assist the involvement of Aboriginal communities and organisations in developing locally based training and employment initiatives that are relevant to the region. Maximize Aboriginal training and employment opportunities through strategic planning and initiatives. Assist Aboriginal people to access appropriate training programmes that facilitate access to mainstream employment opportunities. Build community awareness amongst local employers and service providers. Selection Criteria: Demonstrated awareness of contemporary issues facing Aboriginal people Experience working within the WA education and/or training sector Excellent time management and organisational skills with demonstrated ability to work independently Demonstrated communication skills to work effectively with key stakeholders Demonstrated experience in case management, achieving KPIs and database entry Current Working with Children Card. Current drivers’ licence. Highly Desirable: Experience working clients and stakeholders in the Region Hold a Certificate IV in Career Development or be willing to undertake study to achieve this qualification Please note, part-time and job share arrangements will also be considered.
