The Opportunity This high-profile federal government department is seeking an APS6 Financial Accountant. The role is open as a permanent transfer (S26) for existing APS employees or as a 12-month non-ongoing contract with the view to permanency for external candidates, as it is a vacant position. This position offers good prospects for career progression, with regular opportunities to act in higher-level roles for those who perform well and demonstrate initiative. The Role Reporting to a highly experienced Assistant Director, you will work within a collaborative and dynamic financial reporting team. Key responsibilities include: Preparing external financial reports, including journal entries, reconciliations, and balance sheet management Assisting in the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, and supporting the year-end audit Providing payroll financial assurance and ensuring payroll accounts reconcile with financial systems Assisting with responses to ANAO on matters relating to financial audit work The Ideal Person To be successful in this role, you will have experience as a Financial Accountant or Financial Auditor, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications. CPA/CA qualifications (or progress toward them) are highly regarded. Experience within the federal government, or from consulting or audit firms supporting government clients, will be viewed favourably. You will also demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders. Australian Citizen with current AGSVA baseline clearance or above required.
