Strategic Communications Officer Join a federal government department as a Public Affairs Officer (APS5/APS6) and help shape impactful communications across key policy areas. About the Roles A federal government department located in Tuggeranong, ACT is seeking two experienced communications professionals to join their team as Public Affairs Officers under full-time labour hire contracts. These roles are available through to 30 June 2026, with an option to extend for up to 8 months. There are two positions available: One at APS5 equivalent (PAO1) level One at APS6 equivalent (PAO2) level You’ll be part of a collaborative team working on strategic communication initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and content development for a range of audiences including social media, web, and ministerial communications. Key Responsibilities APS5 (PAO1) – Supportive and delivery-focused role: Assist in developing and implementing communication plans Support stakeholder engagement and relationship management Assist with content creation (social media, web, videos, accessible formats) Provide admin support including briefings, minutes, and media summaries Contribute to procurement and contract coordination APS6 (PAO2) – More strategic and autonomous role: Lead development of communication strategies Manage relationships with internal stakeholders Create high-quality communication materials Coordinate procurement and budget activities Prepare ministerial briefings and event coordination Monitor and report on initiative performance About You Proven experience in communications, public relations, or media (government experience highly regarded) Strong writing, editing, and stakeholder engagement skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment Australian citizenship AND Baseline Security Clearance Available to work full-time (37.5 hours/week) Work Environment & Flexibility Initial on-site work in Tuggeranong, ACT Hybrid work arrangements available after induction and suitability assessment Standard hours: 8:30am–5:00pm, Monday to Friday How to Apply: To submit your application, please click Apply Now!
