Senior Media Officer opportunity Approx. $65-$75 per hour plus Super dependent on experience Assignment duration is up to 3 months. Immediate Start Melbourne CBD location/Hybrid Arrangement About the role Government agency seeks an experienced Senior Media Officer to join them on a short-term assignment for a duration of up to a period of 3 months based in Melbourne CBD. As the Senior Media Officer, you will provide high level media support and advice to key stakeholders to the department’s business units, senior executives and ministerial offices. You will be responsible for developing and delivering a broad range of communication services and materials and providing advice on a range of communication activities. Key Accountabilities Key tasks and responsibilities will include: Develop and deliver proactive media strategies to manage issues and potential risks, in collaboration with the Communications Manager. Provide expert media advice and support to senior executives, business units, operational teams, and regional offices on both short- and long-term strategies. Promote key initiatives and policies through the media, respond to media enquiries, and prepare materials such as media releases, speeches, and reports on media coverage. Draft clear and engaging holding statements, speaking notes, and media briefings for the business unit and Ministers, and manage issue-based media enquiries. Coordinate media conferences and public events, including all logistics and planning for business unit and Ministerial site visits. Identify and assess reputational risks, working with the Communications Manager to develop appropriate mitigation strategies. Regularly review and update communication materials across all channels to ensure they remain accurate, relevant, and audience focused. Key Selection Criteria Knowledge and skills that you will need to demonstrate include: Strong media management experience with prior Victoria media management experience. Demonstrated knowledge of State Government and department communication policies and process Experience developing and delivering communication initiatives within complex, diverse and sensitive service delivery environments. Proven ability to write effectively for different audiences and channels, including social media, website, newsletter, media and stakeholder materials. Experience in engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to deliver effective communication. Qualifications Tertiary qualification in Media, Communications or related field d is highly desirable.
