About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Packages Portfolio Manager to take ownership of our SME and commercial insurance packages portfolio. This role will be responsible for driving profitable growth, managing product lifecycle, and delivering sustainable underwriting results across the packages line of business. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing product and pricing strategies, monitoring portfolio performance, and ensuring our packages offerings remain competitive, compliant, and aligned with customer and broker needs. Key Responsibilities Portfolio Management & PerformanceManage the end-to-end performance of the insurance packages portfolio (SME/commercial packages, business packs, trades packages, etc.). which will be transacted online via Sunrise and similar channels. In conjunction with the actuarial team, monitor underwriting performance, loss ratios, growth trends, retention, and broker/customer feedback.Implement strategies to achieve growth, profitability, and risk appetite targets. Product Development & GovernanceOwn the product lifecycle, including new product development, enhancements, system, specifications and wordings.Ensure compliance with APRA, ASIC, and other relevant Australian regulatory requirements.Conduct regular product reviews to ensure competitiveness and market relevance. Pricing & Underwriting StrategyCollaborate with actuarial and pricing teams to set competitive and sustainable rates.Support underwriting guidelines, authorities, and risk selection criteria.Identify emerging risks, claims trends, and portfolio hotspots requiring intervention. Distribution & Broker EngagementWork closely with distribution and broker relationship teams to understand market needs.Provide training, product updates, and thought leadership to brokers and partners.Support marketing campaigns and distribution initiatives. Leadership & CollaborationPartner with claims, actuarial, operations, and product teams to deliver outcomes.Contribute to the strategic planning of the SME & commercial business unit.Support junior underwriters and product specialists with guidance and mentoring. Key RequirementsMinimum 7 years’ experience in general insurance, with strong exposure to SME or packages insurance.Demonstrated expertise in portfolio management, product development, and underwriting strategy.Solid knowledge of the Australian insurance regulatory framework (APRA, ASIC, GI Code of Practice).Strong analytical and financial acumen, with experience using data to drive decisions.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including broker engagement.Strategic thinker with the ability to balance growth ambitions with disciplined risk management. QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Law, or a related field (preferred).ANZIIF Senior Associate or Fellow status (desirable).Leadership or management training will be highly regarded.
