About the position The Work Health and Safety Officer will assist the People and Wellbeing Unit in ensuring Council are meeting workplace health and safety legislation, compliance and ensuring a safe workplace environment. This includes ensuring the integrity of WHS systems is maintained and educating employees on how to utilise the system efficiently. The WHS Officer assists in building a culture towards health, safety and overall wellbeing for Council employees and contractors. Key Responsibilities Maintain formal document control of Council’s electronic safety management system to support integrity of the system and ensure ease of access for all employees. Train employees in how to best utulise the system. Assist with risk and safety inspections, hazard identification, and investigations to determine corrective actions, provide recommendations for proactive decision making and assist with the implementation of changes Identify and communicate with Management any areas of concerns in relation to incidents and near misses and provide suggestions on how to educate staff. Assist with Contractor Management Administration, such as Pre-Qualification Compliance and Worker Induction Status. Provide WHS inductions, toolbox talks, and safety training to staff and contractors. Assist in completing strategic WHS projects whilst monitoring and reporting on WHS performance, trends, and compliance. Read the Position Description and learn more about this exciting opportunity. About you Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or substantial experience in a similar role. WorkCover approved Return to Work Advisor Certificate. WorkCover NSW Construction Induction Card. (Desirable) Working knowledge of WHS legislation, standards, and practices. Demonstrated experience in ensuring accuracy of records. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and WHS reporting tools.
