Fellow or Career Medical Officer – Intensive Care (Post Transition Year) About the Role Bendigo Health invites applications for the position of Fellow or Career Medical Officer (CMO) – Intensive Care (Post Transition Year). As one of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand’s busiest regional ICUs, Bendigo Health admits over 1,100 patients annually and responds to more than 1,800 MET and Code Blue calls. The unit operates at a level equivalent to metropolitan tertiary services, providing an excellent environment for advanced training and professional growth. This role is ideal for post-Fellowship trainees consolidating non-clinical and leadership skills, or experienced CMOs seeking senior responsibilities. The position offers graded clinical autonomy, with duties divided into 80% clinical and 20% non-clinical responsibilities. Candidates currently sitting the CICM Fellowship exam are encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties Lead handovers and multidisciplinary ward rounds Manage critically ill patients with consultant support and autonomy appropriate to experience Coordinate junior registrar and resident workflow Participate in the consultant on-call roster (with second-on-call support) Respond to Code Blue, MET, trauma, and outreach activities Non-Clinical Duties Teach and supervise junior doctors, medical students, and nursing staff Contribute to ICU education programs, including simulation and courses (BASIC, APLS) Participate in quality assurance, governance, audit, and morbidity & mortality activities Support ongoing research and ANZICS CTG clinical trials Engage in departmental leadership and service planning initiatives By the end of the term, successful candidates will have developed the skills, confidence, and clinical judgement necessary for independent junior consultant practice.
