The Role The Youth Empowerment Projects Officers plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of early intervention, community-based initiatives for young people aged 10–17 from refugee backgrounds in the Western Metropolitan region of Melbourne. This role is part of MiCare's Community Strengthening and Partnerships team within Migrant Service which includes the LEAP (Learning, Empowerment, Action and Participation) initiative. Program Delivery and Facilitation Implement and facilitate youth-focused activities in line with the LEAP and Youth Empowerment Program objectives. Community Engagement and Youth Participation Engage directly with young people and families to encourage participation and co-design of activities that promote inclusion and leadership. Stakeholder Collaboration Coordinate with schools, community groups, and local organisations to ensure effective program delivery and identify new partnership opportunities. Monitoring and Reporting Maintain accurate attendance records, contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes, and assist with reporting on outcomes. Risk Management and Child Safety Ensure all activities are delivered in line with MiCare’s child safety, safeguarding, and OH&S requirements. Capacity Building and Advocacy Support youth voices and development through leadership opportunities and targeted capacity-building initiatives. What We’re Looking For Qualifications and Experience Qualifications in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Work, Education, or a related discipline (or working towards). Experience working with young people from multicultural, refugee, or newly arrived backgrounds. Demonstrated experience delivering group programs or community engagement activities. Essential Skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to engage effectively with children, families, schools, and community groups. Organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks. Skilled in facilitation of workshops, group-based engagement, and youth-centred programming. Cultural competence and an inclusive, collaborative work ethic. An understanding of trauma-informed practice. IT literacy including Microsoft Office, email, and online reporting systems. Desirable Lived experience of migration or refugee resettlement. Knowledge of Myanmar diaspora communities and languages (e.g. Chin, Karen, Karenni, etc.). Why MiCare?
