We are currently seeking a Robotics & Automation Specialist to join our ANZ robotics team. This role can be based in either Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney or Perth and will be reporting locally to the AI Applications Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in deploying and supporting robotic automation solutions across ALS Environmental laboratories in Australia. This is a unique opportunity to combine robotics, software, and lab science in a role that directly improves safety, quality, and throughput in testing operations. Please include a portfolio of robotics and software projects you’ve designed or built - Work and/or hobby The day to day Your responsibilities will include: • Deploying and commissioning robotic automation systems across ANZ labs • Integrating hardware and software, including cobots, sensors, HMIs, and laboratory instruments • Programming robots and peripherals using Python, C#, Lua, Blockly, and industrial protocols • Building interfaces with LIMS, ELNs, and other lab applications • Developing fixtures, end-effectors, and prototypes for lab workflows • Creating SOPs, training resources, and change control documentation • Training lab champions and supporting local teams in day-to-day use • Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and software domains • Identifying opportunities for automation and supporting business cases with measurable benefits • Ensuring compliance with ALS engineering, quality, and HSE standards The essentials We’re looking for a hands-on robotics professional who thrives at the intersection of automation and science. You’ll bring: • Experience in laboratory environments and sample workflows would be advantageous • Practical experience with robotics, PLCs, sensors, and HMIs • Programming skills in Python, C#, Lua or similar • Familiarity with 3D modelling & 3D Printing • Ability to integrate systems with LIMS and lab applications using APIs and industrial protocols • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and software domains • Excellent documentation and communication skills • Willingness to travel nationally/internationally to ALS Environmental sites across Australia – New Zealand for robotics implementations.
