Our purpose is to improve work health and safety and reduce the risk of work-related fatalities, injuries, and illness in Queensland workplaces. We work with industry and assist businesses to create a safe and healthy culture in Queensland places of work. We do this by: - Making sure work health and safety laws are followed. - Investigating work-related fatalities and serious injuries. - Educating workplaces on ways to comply with legislation. - Taking legal action when work health and safety laws are broken. - Educating employees and employers on their legal obligations. As a Subject Matter Advisor, you will work within the Advisory Services team in the Licensing and Regulatory Interventions directorate to provide high quality, accurate information to the clients of OIR about a broad range of workplace health and safety matters including Work Health and safety legislation, Electrical Safety legislation, all codes of practice adopted by WHSQ and any additional services, programs and initiatives undertaken by WHSQ. SMAs are also required to have an awareness and understanding of jurisdictional boundaries and cross-jurisdictional matters in order to inform clients about other avenues of information and services. As a first point of contact for members of the public, SMAs must be exceptional communicators with substantial experience tailoring written and verbal communication to suit the needs of a diverse range of stakeholders. SMAs are also responsible for receiving and managing serious and sensitive complaints and incident reporting, requiring exceptional conflict-management skills and high levels of resilience.
