About the role: As Senior Investigator, you’ll work within a of compliance and environmental professional to ensure industry adheres to the Mining Act 1992 and Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991. You’ll do this by: Conducting thorough investigations as an authorised Inspector to ensure compliance with the Mining Act and related regulations. Leading and delivering targeted compliance operations to meet regulatory objectives. Preparing, reviewing and presenting robust evidence, reports and recommendations, and providing testimony in courts or tribunals as required. Collaborating with teams on investigations and projects to develop and implement enforcement strategies and policies. Exercising statutory powers to enforce compliance, direct corrective actions, and ensure timely follow-up on assessment or inspection findings. Sharing specialist knowledge in investigative techniques to promote consistent policy and legislative application. Reporting on enforcement activities and recommend process or practice improvements. Staying up to date on compliance issues and promote best practice through consultation with staff, industry and stakeholders. About You: To be successful you will need to have: Tertiary qualifications in one or more of the following areas: environmental science, science, law or forensics (or equivalent). Hold and maintain a current Class C driver licence, as well as the ability and willingness to travel interstate at short notice. You’ll also need: Demonstrated experience in compliance and enforcement, preferably within government mining or environmental regulation. Proven investigative skills, including interviewing witnesses and suspects, and applying rules of evidence and court procedures.
