As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll be a technical leader and mentor, helping shape the future of digital government. You’ll work alongside talented engineers, designers, and product managers in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment - where your ideas and influence matter. What you’ll do This is a strategic, high-impact role where you’ll: Lead the development, technical design, deployment and operation of features and improvements. Design and architect solutions to complex technical problems across large-scale systems. Champion engineering excellence and uplift practices across teams. Mentor and inspire junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning, growth and collaboration. Apply systems thinking and contribute to technical design - experience designing solutions in large or complex ecosystems is valued. Collaborate in agile ceremonies, retros, and engineering community events. Continuously learn through hackathons, knowledge-sharing sessions, and our onboarding academy. What we’re looking for We’re after senior engineers who: Are full stack developers with experience in modern languages like Kotlin, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript (React, Angular, Node), Golang. Have experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerised infrastructure. Embrace XP practices and are open to learning and contributing to a strong engineering culture. Communicate well, enjoy working in product teams, and care about the end-to-end customer journey. Have a passion for mentoring, inspiring others, and see their career progressing into technical or people leadership. Bring strong fundamentals in architecture, design patterns, concurrency, and problem-solving. Essential requirements To be considered for roles in the NSW public sector, applicants must be NSW residents or in the process of relocating to NSW. Hold appropriate working rights for the type of employment offered. Ongoing (permanent) roles require Australian citizenship or permanent residency. For this recruitment we will be conducting a minimum of three interview and assessment stages that form a comparative process. This will include: panel behavioural interview, coding challenge, online cognitive and psychometric testing, and reference checks. A skills/technical task may also be requested. Support office roles will be headquartered across McKell, Parramatta and Gosford. We will consider role headquarters outside of the above locations where the role can reasonably be performed from that location. When approved, the relevant leader will discuss headquarter options.
